The robot

snAIl is a working prototype, built in our workshop. Its snail shape hides research-grade sensors and an onboard computer.
The technology
Omnidirectional wheel : A special wheel lets the robot translate and rotate freely, in any direction — ideal for understanding how a mobile robot moves.
Stereo 3D camera : Two lenses give the robot depth perception, like a pair of eyes. It is the foundation of the computer-vision lessons.
LiDAR : A laser scanner maps the room all around the robot — the basis of the path-planning lessons.
Ultrasonics and bumpers : Close-range sensors and touch bumpers detect obstacles safely.
Wi-Fi hotspot : The robot creates its own Wi-Fi network: the computer connects to it directly. No school network, no IT setup needed.
Embedded AI : The onboard computer runs AI models directly on the robot — the intelligence is onboard, not in the cloud.
The goal: autonomy
The destination of the whole program is autonomous behavior: the robot perceives with its camera and LiDAR, decides with embedded AI, and acts — with no one at the controls.
